This inaugural lecture marked Professor Sharifah Hapsah’s appointment as Professor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. In this scholarly lecture, she explored the development of distance learning in medical education, addressing its opportunities, challenges and future potential at a time when flexible and technology-assisted learning was still in its infancy. The lecture reflects her vision for innovation in medical education and foreshadows many of the educational reforms that she would later champion nationally as Vice-Chancellor of UKM and as the architect of Malaysia’s higher education quality assurance system.
