Professor Sharifah Hapsah welcomed the policy framework for Ekonomi MADANI and called for a comprehensive approach to developing the Care Economy.
She explained that a stronger Care Economy could attract investment, create employment for women, young people and lower-income communities, improve productivity, reduce reliance on low-skilled foreign labour and help retain women in the labour force.
She also welcomed the framework’s emphasis on social protection and recognition of the excessive unpaid care burden borne by women.
